These balls are served and eaten without any side dish but taste exceptionally great with green chutney or tomato ketchup. These suji-based snack recipes are very common in India and are similar to Rava Idli or Rava Dhokla, but with a unique shape and flavor. There is another way of using suji to make an easy and healthy snack recipe because suji balls which are not only easy and quick to make but very tempting too.

I always like to add my personal touch to every dish using different masalas, so tried different South Indian and North Indian Snack recipes. Make sure to make every dish look appealing by garnishing it properly. I will try different rava recipes in the future but my recent go-to dish is the suji balls. I think many people are bored with the same rava idli or upma recipe, so this recipe can certainly be a new change and new way of using suji snacks recipes. One of the best things about this recipe is that it can be made in no time and also does not require any fancy ingredients that are not easily available. Just simply steam the balls and then temper them with the required spices.

Moreover, I will share some easy and important tips and tricks while preparing suji balls at home. Firstly, in this post, I have shared and shaped it into a round ball but it can be shaped to any desired shape you want. For an easy and quick option, you can shape them into circular or even cylindrical discs. Secondly, don’t forget to garnish it with fresh coriander or mint leaves to make it look appealing. Thirdly, the recipe does not require any side dish, so to complete the recipe serve it with spicy green chutney, tomato ketchup, or any side dish of your choice. Lastly, these balls can be easily stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 day. You may have to microwave it for 30-60 seconds or re-steam them to refresh before serving.

How To Make Bun Dosa With Step By Step Photo

  1. Firstly, in a bowl, add 1 cup semolina, 3/4 cup curd, and mix. Add 3-4 tbsp water and mix well.

2. Transfer the mixture to the mixer jar, add ½ cup water, and grind it.

3. After grinding, smooth and fluffy batter is ready. Transfer it to a bowl and keep aside.

4. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan, add 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp jeera, and cook for 1 minute.

5. Add 1 chopped onion, 1 chopped green chilli, 10 curry leaves, and cook for 1-2 minutes at medium flame.

6. Add ½ tsp asafoetida, 3-4 tbsp chopped coriander, ½ tsp salt, mix and cook for 1 minute.

7. After it is perfectly cooked, turn off the flame and let it cool.

8. Add the prepared masala to the semolina mixture. Add ½ tsp salt, combine well, and keep aside.

9. Now, to make onion tomato chutney, add 1 tbsp oil in a pan and heat it.

10. Add 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp jeera, ¼ tsp asafoetida, 2 dried red chillies, 10 curry leaves, and cook at medium flame.

11. Add 2 roughly chopped onions, 1 tsp each chopped garlic, ginger, and green chilli. Cook for 2 minutes.

12. Add 2 roughly chopped tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes.

13. After it is perfectly cooked, turn off the flame and let it cool. Transfer it to the mixer jar, add ½ tsp salt, and grind it.

14. After grinding, the smooth chutney is ready. Transfer it to a bowl and keep aside.

15. Now, in the semolina batter, add ½ tsp baking soda, and gently mix it.

16. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a tadka pan, add 1 tbsp prepared batter using a ladle. Cook for 1 minute on low flame.

17. Remove the sides. The bun shape will be best in the tadka pan. Pour 1 tbsp oil from above and flip carefully.

18. Roast both sides until golden brown and remove from the pan. Similarly, prepare the other ones.

19. Finally, enjoy bun dosa with onion tomato chutney.
